Home Remedies To Cure A Dry, Itchy Scalp

Guilty of being too heavy handed with your dry shampoo? Read this.

Dealing with a dry and itchy scalp can be as uncomfortable as it is irritating. A dry scalp is generally caused by the scalp not producing enough natural oils which in turn causes irritation, itching and flaking. Along with making your hair look visibly dry, it can also slow down new hair growth. Whether you’re too heavy handed with your dry shampoo or suffer from dandruff or dry skin, here are some natural ways you can treat a dry, itchy scalp using products you can find around the house.

Coconut Oil
Coconut Oil has a long list of hydrating benefits and a dry scalp is no exception. It’s loaded with anti-fungal properties that can treat itchiness and dry skin while providing intense hydration where needed.
How to use: Apply melted, warm coconut oil directly to your scalp, massaging it into the skin. Wash your hair with shampoo and conditioner after 10-20 minutes.

#BBProTip: If you don’t have any coconut oil on hand, use your Bali Body Natural Tanning & Body Oil. The all natural product includes just coconut oil, grape seed oil, olive oil and jojoba oil.

Tea Tree Oil
With strong antiseptic and anti-fungal properties, tea tree oil is very often one of the main ingredients found in anti-dandruff shampoos. The oil, made from native leaves will help to treat the itchiness by moisturising and nourishing the scalp.
How to use: Mix 5-7 drops of tea tree oil with a carrier oil like olive oil or coconut oil and massage it into your scalp well. Leave it on for 10 minutes before washing it out.

Aloe Vera
Too much dry-shampoo? Try some aloe vera. Known for its moisturising and hydrating properties, it will help to hydrate the scalp and reduce skin irritation.
How to use: Take organic aloe vera gel and apply it directly to your scalp. Leave it for 15-20 minutes and wash with lukewarm water.

Jojoba Oil
If you’ve got dry skin issues, using jojoba oil is a great way to keep your scalp healthy. The lightweight oil is perfect if you have thin hair because it will hydrate your locks sans the heaviness of regular hair products.
How to use: Add a few drops of jojoba oil to your shampoo for regular hydration.

Avocados
Avocados contain monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids that moisturise and protect the skin. Along with eating avocados you can also apply avocado or avocado oil topically to soothe dry scalp.
How to use: Mix blended avocado with a few drops of olive oil before messaging it into your scalp thoroughly. Let it sit for 10-15 minutes before washing it out.
