Summer is the season of fun, sun and of course, tans. However, not everyone has the luxury of spending time outdoors, or the desire to risk skin damage from the sun’s harsh UV rays. For those of you wanting to achieve a bronzed look all year round, we at Bali Body have you covered with our wide range of self tanning products made with natural and nourishing ingredients designed to make you glow. Our newest product, the Ultra Dark 1 Hour Express Tan in particular contains a lightweight, aerated formula that is customisable to achieve your desired shade of bronze in record time. But it does beg the question - how do you maintain such a deep and dark fake tan for an extended period of time? Here are some of our top tips to keep your faux glow looking fresh and fabulous for longer.
1) Exfoliate before tanning
The key to a long lasting tan is a good base. Before applying self tanner, it’s important to exfoliate your skin to remove any dead skin cells. This will ensure an even application and prevent the tan from looking patchy or fading too quickly. We recommend using a reusable Exfoliating Mitt or a Body Scrub for your self tan prep and removal. These help to effectively remove self tan build up and gently exfoliate to prepare your skin for a seamless, natural looking self tan.
2) Moisturise regularly
Dry skin can cause a fake tan to fade faster. To avoid this, moisturise your skin daily to keep it hydrated. We’ve unlocked the secret to a longer lasting tan with the release of our Antioxidant Body Whip, an everyday moisturiser enriched with Niacinamide and Hyaluronic Acid that intensely hydrates the skin, leaving it silky smooth and nourished whilst extending the life of your self tan. Once you start self tanning, you won’t know how you lived without this product!
3) Avoid hot showers and baths
Hot water can strip your skin of its natural oils and cause your tan to fade faster. Instead, take lukewarm showers and baths, and avoid soaking in the water for too long.
4) Don’t overdo it
You’ve heard the saying, “Too much of a good thing can be bad”. Applying too much product therefore can cause your tan to look fake and unnatural. We recommend using a moderate amount of product and build up the colour gradually. For instance, our Ultra Dark 1 Hour Express Tan is not only fast drying, but is completely customisable to achieve your preferred shade - let it develop for 1 hour for a natural looking bronzed glow, 2 hours for a deep tan & 3+ hours for the darkest result without the need to apply multiple layers.
5) Protect your skin from the sunFact - even though you have a fake tan, it will provide zero sun protection. Instead of falling into the trap of thinking your temporary tan will make you less susceptible to UV damage, we’re here to tell you that it’s a giant myth. Wear sunscreen with a strong SPF component, just like our Face and Body Sunscreen SPF50 when spending time outside, and try to avoid prolonged sun exposure so that you can make the most of your faux glow.
6) Reapply self tanner as needed
Maintaining a deep fake tan does require a bit of effort and attention to detail, but the end result will have those around you wanting to unlock your secret. After 5-7 days, you’ll notice your self tan beginning to fade, which is why we recommend reapplying as needed. Following all the key steps above such as exfoliating, moisturising and protecting your skin from the sun will set you up for success too, giving you the fastest, darkest and most flawless tan you’ve ever had!
