The Best Podcasts & Documentaries of 2020 (So Far)

Stay entertained while we're all spending some extra time at home. Pyjamas optional but necessary.

While we're the first to admit that listening to Fine Line on repeat 24/7 is our preference sometimes you just need to change it up. There is a podcast for everyone, from a good mix of true crime to really informational listening about news, love and everything in between. If you’re really not into the podcast life, we’ve also got some epic documentaries that will have you on the edge of your seat too. Here is our list of BB HQ approved podcasts and documentaries that are guaranteed to bring some laughs, entertainment and knowledge to your life.

LISTEN | PODCASTS

Dr Death
This chilling podcast by Wondery tells the true story of Christopher Duntsch, a Texas surgeon who was convicted of gross malpractice after 31 of his patients were left seriously injured after he operated on them and 2 patients died during his operation. We’re at our most vulnerable when we go to our doctors, we’re taught to trust them and trust our hospital, so what happens when they fail you? Reported and hosted by Laura Beil, you’ll have to listen to find out.

Comments By Celebs
If you’re anything like us then you’re probably already obsessing over the @commentsbycelebs Instagram account for your daily lols. Now you can get an extra dose on the podcast hosted by Emma Diamond & Julie Kramer, the creative minds behind the account and self-proclaimed celeb experts. Fun, easy listening on Hollywood, IG thirst traps and celebrity gossip is guaranteed.

The Daily
If you’re going to tune into one piece of news daily then we recommend The Daily by The New York Times. Covering the biggest stories of our time, everything from the Australian wildfires to COVID-19. It’s factual, informative and best of all includes no fluff. Stay informed without being overloaded and get listening now.

VIEWS with David Dobrik and Jason Nash
Ever wanted to know what it’s like being a famous YouTuber? Now you can. David Dobrik, a 23 year old millionaire YouTuber and Jason Nash, a 40-something single dad with a vlog of his own, take you behind the scenes of their vlogs and show you what living the “YouTube life” is really like. It’s real, a little bit crazy and a whole heap of fun for those moments that you need to escape the reality of what is happening in the world.

Who The Hell Is Hamish
Get ready to be shook. This investigative podcast by The Australian newspaper reports on the exploits of conman Hamish Watson, a surfer from Sydney who lived a double life of lies and manipulation. How did he do it? How did he evade authorities around the world for so long and what has he done with all those tens of millions of dollars he stole? This 10-part podcast is a must listen.

WATCH |  DOCUMENTARIES

Cheer
This six-episode series will tumble straight into your heart. Follow the Navarro College cheer team of Corsicana, Texas, as they prep, train and vie for the national championship. The journey to the competition is just as emotional as it is physically rigorous. Warning: It may inspire you to start practising your cartwheels in your backyard every night.

Killer Inside: The Mind Of Aaron Hernandez
On a much darker note to Cheer, is the documentary on Former New England Patriot star Aaron Hernandez. He was a man that had it all, a successful NFL career, money, a big house and a family to love. Find out how it went down in flames when he became entangled in multiple murder cases in the early 2010s. It’s only a three-part documentary so you can binge it in one session (as if you weren't going to already).

Miss Americana
Now it wouldn't be a list of best documentaries if one of the most anticipated biographical documentaries of the year wasn't included. Miss Americana is Taylor Swift like you have never seen her before. It details the sexism and misogyny that surrounded Taylor’s rise to fame, Kanye West's famous interruption at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, Taylor’s year in hiding and her triumphant return to the spotlight. Whether you’re a Tay Tay fan or not, she will do what she does best and make you feel all the feels in this Netflix special.

For the ultimate pick me up while you’re spending more time at home thanks to Coronavirus, why not self tan before you listen and/or watch one of your favourites in this list. Shop your all Bali Body self (tan) care essentials here.
